SISTERS Jay and Robyn Jackson, from Dursley, raised £1,500 for a charity which helps people with MS after seeing the crippling effects of the condition on a friend.
Jay, 31, and Robyn, 27, were both attempting the London Marathon for the first time.
Robyn, a management accountant now living in Cam, is a Dursley Running Club member and impressively completed the course in under three hours.
Her sister finished in a time of five hours and 44 minutes, and was offered a glass of wine at mile 23 to spur her on.
She said: “I wanted to cry at every point past 10 miles –it was the hardest thing we have ever done in our lives.
“The pain in my legs and feet was unbearable and both walking and running hurt, and to top it off I was overtaken by a huge rhino, Power Rangers in Morphsuits and even a man with a tumble dryer on his back.”
The sisters raised the impressive sum of money for MS-UK, a charity which funds the fight against neurological condition multiple sclerosis (MS).
Jay chose the charity after witnessing the effect of the condition on her friend Heather, a keen netball player who is now in constant agony and requires the use of a wheelchair but has remained strong and become a huge source of inspiration.
It was an emotional day for both sisters, who say the marathon was well worth it despite now hobbling like John Wayne.
Robyn said: “We had our friends and family there to support us at various miles around the course which really helped us keep us going.”
