RESIDENTS from Falfield were treated to an inside look at the heart of government during a tour of Parliament organised by MP Luke Hall.

The group travelled by coach last Monday from the Huntsman Inn straight to the Houses of Parliament, where they received a fully guided tour of both the House of Lords and House of Commons.

The village tours initiative, led by the MP, encourages constituents across the Thornbury and Yate area to nominate their villages to take part.

This is the second village trip organised by Mr Hall, with residents from Rangeworthy taking part earlier this year.

Afterward the trip to the two houses, the villagers were also given the chance to visit less public places within Westminster, including the Queen’s robing room, the Royal Portrait Gallery, the central lobby, Westminster Hall and St Stephen’s Hall.

Following a trip to the gift shop and the Jubilee Café next to Westminster Hall, Mr Hall was able to obtain special permission for the group to visit the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in Westminster Hall and view the cupboard where the Suffragette Emily Wilding Davison locked herself in on the night of the 1911 consensus.

Mr Hall said: “Should I be re-elected on June 8 I shall make sure that I continue to run the Thornbury and Yate village Tours of Parliament.

“I would really encourage anyone who would be interested in attending on of these Tours to get in touch with my office to nominate your village or town."
