A MAJOR supermarket has shortlisted a Gloucestershire supplier to have its produce stocked in its regional stores.

Morrisons have begun an initiative that will boost the amount of locally sourced food and drink available in its stores, after hearing that consumers value produce made “just down the road”.

On Wednesday, April 26, 17 of the South West’s top food and drink makers met with the supermarket giant in Somerset in an attempt to gain a place on Morrisons’ shelves.

Among those invited was Marshfield Bakery in Dyrham, who were asked to attend after being shortlisted from a list of 60 applicants.

Richard Jones, Morrisons Food Quality Expert and Development Chef, praised all of the businesses who met with Morrisons.

He said: “The South West has a long history of great, local food and the producers we’ve met with have been no exception.

“After seeing the quality of the food, we’re keen to put even more food made locally on our customers’ plates.”

Morrisons will now decide which suppliers have what it takes to stock its store and will invite them to a final round at the supermarket’s head office in Bradford.
