A NEW exhibition in Yate is showcasing the way that people in the area dressed in the past.

The Yate Clothing exhibition launched at Yate Heritage Centre on Thursday, April 27 and will run until Saturday, June 10.

Visitors to the centre will be able to see a WWI dress jacket belonging to Henry Blathwayt, who owned the Dyrham Park estate in the early 20th Century before he was killed at the Battle of Cambrai.

His jacket has been conserved on behalf of the National Trust by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), and has been made available to be viewed by the public thanks to efforts of The HLF, National Trust and South Gloucestershrie Council.

The full story of how it has been restored to its former glory can be found at Yate Heritage Centre.

Other clothing items of interest in the exhibition include a Sodbury Queen coach driver’s coat, a historic military uniform relating to the Rector of Horton plus Victorian and early 20th Century clothes linked to the Walker family of Hawkesbury.
