THE 29-YEAR-OLD man charged with the manslaughter of Jack Mitchell after an alleged attack in The Warehouse nightclub in Stroud appeared in court today.

Jake Davies, 29, from the Bowbridge area of Stroud, appeared in Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court after he was bailed on April 7.

He was charged with the unlawful killing of Mr Mitchell following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Davies did not submit a plea when he appeared before magistrates in a case which was rushed through by the court.

His case was sent to Gloucester Crown Court where Davies will appear for an initial hearing on Thursday, June 1.

Davies was released on bail until then, with the one condition that he cannot enter any licensed premises in Stroud.

The charge relates to the death of army gunner Jack Mitchell, 24, in the early hours of Sunday, February 5.

Hundreds of people gathered to honour the former Painswick rugby player and army gunner at his funeral on March 10, he was given full military honours including the three-volley salute.

A JustGiving page set up by the SNJ in his memory raised £1,647 which will be given to a Kenyan orphanage where Jack spent six months while serving with the army.

His mother Kate Mitchell said: “We are so grateful and really touched at the overwhelming response.

“Something worthwhile will come out of our heart-breaking loss and will be a fitting tribute to Jack and the man he was.”
