CHARITY walkers across South Gloucestershire are putting their best foot forward in Chipping Sodbury this weekend for toddler Ezzy Hodge.

Ezzy’s Sunday Stroll is fundraising for the Ezzy’s Wish to Walk campaign, aiming to raise £80,000 for the three-year-old from Thornbury who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy last year.

The event on Sunday, which is divided into a 10 mile walk and a three mile walk gives people the chance to choose a distance to go take on.

Around 50 people are expected to take part, with everyone raising sponsorship.

The 10 mile course will start at 9am, while the three mile walk will start at 11am – both meeting outside the George Hotel on Chipping Sodbury High Street 20 minutes beforehand.

The event’s organiser, Sarah Hitchings, has run seven similar events in recent years, raising around £13,000 for good causes.

“Ezzy is such a sweet little girl and has such determination already,” she said. “You realise that the second you meet her.

“With how everyone is behind the cause it won’t be long until she is up and running around with everyone else.”

Speaking about the simplicity of fundraising by going for a walk, she said: “Fundraising doesn’t need to be extravagant, or over the top. If it is sometimes people aren’t interested in taking part and inclusivity is a big part of charity.

“Hopefully we will see a lot of people there on Sunday, everyone is welcome to join us and have some fun.”

Ezzy’s parents are set to take on the walk as well, with dad Matt walking the 10 mile course and mum Angela walking the three miler.

Angela told the Gazette that even Ezzy will be taking part in her walking frame.

She said “We are going to do as much as we can in the frame, but will have her wheelchair as well just in case.

“If everyone else is doing it, she will definitely want to join in and she will keep going as long as everyone else is having fun.”
