ELECTION 2017: Green party will stand in all three South Gloucestershire seats

Their three candidates are Diana Warner (Filton and Bradley Stoke), Iain Hamilton (Thornbury and Yate) and Matt Furey-King (Kingswood).

Commenting on the selection of all three candidates, Green Party co-ordinator Jenny Vernon said: "I am delighted that the membership has chosen these three fantastic candidates with a breadth of local knowledge and specialisms.

“Voters will recognise two of the names from the election in 2015 in Iain and Diana, and we welcome Matt to the candidate team this year.

“The Green Party are proud to be again fielding candidates that share real life experiences with residents in South Gloucerstershire - not career politicians backed by big money from rich donors or large trade unions."

Diana Warner

Filton and Bradley Stoke candidate Diana Warner lives in Filton and works as a GP.

She joined the Greens because she believes that they have a “strong stance” on protecting the environment and because they believe that long term security is best achieved not by war, but by peaceful means.

Having previously stood for election in 2015, the doctor is determined to bring NHS issues, such as “privatisation, mismanagement and underfunding”, to the forefront of political debates.

Iain Hamilton

Candidate Iain Hamilton (Thornbury and Yate) is a long-term resident of Thornbury, and also contested the seat in 2015.

Having worked in the Prison Service, his current day job is working as a Community Payback Officer with the Probation Service.

He joined the Green Party when he moved south of the border and was looking for a party that “did politics differently”.

Matt Furey-King

Matt Furey-King, candidate for Kingswood, lives in Warmley where he grew up.

He works as an aircraft engineer but is a former military man, who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Green candidate joined the party in 2014 because he was inspired by their “social justice and environmental credentials”.
