SUCCESS has been in abundance for Dursley Town Girls football teams this season – with the under-12s proving to be 'the invincibles'.

Averaging more than five goals a game in their 14 games (plus two home walkovers), Dursley Town Girls under-12s won the county league without losing a single match and became the first of the club’s teams to win a league since its formation in 2000.

Going unbeaten all season makes the team 'the invincibles', like Premier League Arsenal in 2003/04.

The under-12s were not the only one of the club’s various age group teams to celebrate a victorious season, however, with the under-10s winning the Gloucestershire under-10s League Cup and the under-18s winning the Gloucestershire Football Association Futsal Plate.

Club chairman Dean Macey congratulated the club's players for their success, saying: “Well done to all of the girls on a brilliant season.”

Founded 17 years ago by Ellen Kent and Steve Ash from the remnants of Cam Bulldogs, Dursley Town originally competed in tournaments and friendlies across the area.

They later joined forces with Gloucester City, Stokelane and Cheltenham to form the Gloucester County Girls league.

Over the years, a number of the club’s players have gone on to play senior football at clubs including Forest Green, Cheltenham Town and Bristol Academy but the teams this year have taken the club to a new level.

Any girls interested in playing football are welcome to come along and have a few free training sessions.
