THE developers turning the former Berkeley Hospital building into eight apartments are calling on the public to help them name the new build.

Members of the public can submit ideas for what they think the 18th century building should be called as it moves from medical usage, after its closure in 2009, to residential after its development by Adapt Real Estate.

The estate agents hope to release two show flats in June and the whole scheme in Marybrook Street is set to be completed by the end of August.

Adam Fletcher, from the site’s developers Adapt Real Estate, said: “We are excited about breathing new life into this once loved building and have been really encouraged by the initial level of enquiries.

“We are keen to involve the local community in asking them to come forward with their suggestions of a new name for the former hospital.

“As a bit of fun for the community, we’re offering a bottle of champagne to the person that provides a building name that we end up selecting.”

The properties are being aimed at both retirees and professionals and will feature a communal garden with some private gardens for the ground floor properties.

Jon Ashton, director of the estate agents in charge of the development Bennett Jones, said: “We’re very pleased to be offering this high quality development of eight superior one and two-bedroom apartments and felt it would be very positive for Berkeley and fitting that one of the best known buildings in the town is to be converted for this purpose.

“With the forthcoming opening of the University Technical College in Berkeley the town is going to become even more popular.

“Anyone wishing to register early interest should call Julie Ashby or Jonathan Ashton and these select buyers will be the first to be invited to a pre-launch open house of the show apartments.”

The submission deadline for name ideas if Sunday, June 11 and can be sent to kate@adaptrealestate.co.uk
