FOLLOWING a successful fundraising concert for the Cotswold Canal Trust by the Dursley Male Voice Choir in 2015, the choir are repeating the event with a concert in Stroud on Sunday, June 25.

Along with the the Dursley Male Voice Choir, the Cotswold Canal Singers will also be taking part raising funds for the Stroudwater Navigation Connected phase of the canal restoration.

The Dursley Male Voice Choir was founded by a group of enthusiastic local singers in 1978 and has since grown to be one of the principal male voice choirs of the region with up to 70 singers drawn from communities around Dursley and the wider Stroud district.

The choir has been under the musical direction of Barrie Cooper since 2003.

Barrie is a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music and has made numerous choral arrangements and composed major works.

He has an outstanding record of success in competitions, in particular at Cheltenham Festival for Performing Arts.

The Cotswold Canal Singers are a group of keen and accomplished musicians that actively support the canal restoration programme. They were originally brought together by Val Kirby, vice chair of the trust, and are led by her husband, Hugh Barton.

The Dursley Male Voice Choir and the Cotswold Canal Trust are two very local organisations, in many cases sharing the same members, which are coming together in June to deliver what promises to be a memorable fundraising concert in aid of the canal restoration programme.
