ON a day of indifferent weather, Thornbury third team skipper Hawkins won an important toss against Old Bristolians Westbury and elected to field on a damp Tockington Manor wicket.

The Thornbury attack of Rhys Price and Sam Williams bowled with accuracy and precision and restricted the openers to any attacking intent and by the sixth over Sam Williams had removed both openers.

Dan Botha and Andy Weeks came into the attack and wickets were taken at regular intervals with the score at 69-8 in the 26th over, with both Weeks and Botha picking up two wickets.

Dodson and Beach began to assert some control and recover the situation.

With boundaries beginning to flow, Price and Williams came back into the attack and it was Price who picked up the last two wickets to finish on 2-18.

With a respectable total of 149 to win, 12-year-old Praneel Choughule was given instructions to bat and remain undefeated with support coming from the other end.

Richard Hughes posted 15 at the top of the order and Simon Weeks fell for four it was left to brother Andy Weeks to remain with Praneel as the pair put on 69 for the third wicket until Andy Weeks fell for 58.

Jack Summerfield and Carl Botha both fell without scoring and it was left to Hawkins to guide Choughule to his maiden adult fifty in the 33rd over to seal victory.

An excellent team performance with Choughule’s mature batting display a highlight.
