STAFF at a Gloucestershire charity are inviting the county’s carers to its 25th birthday bash ahead of national Carers Week.

The event, in honour of Carers Gloucestershire’s 25th anniversary, takes place this Sunday (June 11) in Pittville Park and Pump Rooms from 11am-4pm.

Organisers are expecting hundreds of unpaid carers and their families to attend the event, which will include music performances, street food from across the globe, free music workshops and complimentary therapies.

This year's Carers Week runs from June 12-18.

Carers can also book for taster sessions in ukulele-playing, photography, print-making, painting, decoupage and batik.

Chief executive of Carers Gloucestershire, Tim Poole, said: “On Sunday we are reaching out to carers from across Gloucestershire who may be feeling stressed or isolated to come along and have a great time, concentrate on their own well-being for a day and re-energise.

“We’re celebrating 25 years of supporting the thousands of carers in our county and invite everyone to join us – we will also be on hand to provide advice and guidance should anyone want to talk about issues they are facing as a carer.”

“We’re grateful to the Big Lottery Fund and the Barnwood Trust for their generous support enabling us to host this free event and reach out to carers.”

Staff from the Mindsong music charity will be running workshops about how music can be used to communicate with those living with dementia and other neuro-degenerative conditions.

The event includes many other fun activities including a bouncy castle and inflatables, face-painting, live music and a mass choral piece from Midlife Choirsis and the Caring Chorus, a kite-making workshop and display, and a BBQ.

A Carers Information Village with professionals and support organisations on hand, to help with any questions or advice you may need in your caring role.

If you are a carer and would like to join one of the free workshops or book free transport contact Carers Gloucestershire on 01452 386283 or email mail@carersgloucestershire.org.uk, places are limited and there is a wheelchair place available on each bus.
