A TEAM of surgical staff from Southmead Hospital are taking up their oars this month to raise money for prostate cancer care.

Nurses, surgeons, matrons and administrators from the hospital’s surgical division have come together as a team to compete at this year’s Dragon Boat Festival on Bristol docks, and will be rowing in a number of fast-paced races at the event, which takes place on Sunday, June 18.

Southmead Hospital Charity has been chosen as one of the charities to be supported by this year’s Festival, with the majority of funds raised going towards the charity’s prostate cancer care appeal to raise £2million to buy two surgical robots to treat men in the region with prostate cancer.

“We’re delighted to be chosen by the Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast to benefit from the Dragon Boat Festival,” said: community appeals manager, Adrian Brown.

“The money we receive from the event will go towards our Appeal and we’re very grateful to everyone who is taking part, and to everyone who sponsors the teams.”

“We, of course, want to wish all teams taking part the best of luck.  But we’d also like to wish extra special luck to the team from our hospital!”
