MEMBERS of Chipping Sodbury Lions Club have rallied to support the people affected by a horrific fire at Grenfell Tower in London.

It has been announced that 17 people perished in the fire, but many families are still missing and the final death toll is expected to rise.

After learning of the devastation, Chipping Sodbury Lions Club appealed for clothes and other items from the local community.

They were inundated with offers, but have recently learnt that Kensington and Chelsea council have received so many things that they cannot take any more.

The group will now be carrying out a bucket collection on Broad Street during the Chipping Sodbury Carnival on Saturday to raise money for the familes affected.

Juan Nuevo, of Chipping Sodbury Lions Club, said: "We would like to thank the amazing response from the community after we put out an appeal for items.

"But after hearing that Kensington and Chelsea council no longer need donations, we will instead focus on raising money for the families involved.

"Lions Clubs are there to serve the community, and we wanted to show our love and support to the people in London."
