AS PART of a nationwide festival of learning, South Gloucestershire libraries are hosting a range of taster sessions.

Among the sessions taking place between June 19 and June 25, residents can trace their family history, get to grips with gadgets, learn more about IT and try T’ai Chi.

Cllr Heather Goddard, the council’s executive member for communities and tourism, said: “We are very excited to be part of the Festival of Learning this year by showcasing some of the educational services South Gloucestershire libraries have to offer.

“Adult learning is an important part of what libraries do and we look forward to opening our doors to anyone who is interested in taking part and helping them to kick-start their learning journey.”

Family History sessions include:
Cadbury Heath Library, Monday, June 19, 1pm to 4pm
Thornbury Library, Monday June 19, 9.30am to 12.30pm
Winterbourne Library, Friday June 23, 10am to 11am
Hanham Library, Friday June 23, 12pm to 2pm
Patchway Library, Saturday, June 24, 10am to 11am
Staple Hill Library, Saturday, June 24, 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm
Emersons Green Library, Saturday, June 24, 11am to 3.30pm.

To complement the Family History taster sessions, a Family History Resources exhibition is taking place at Emersons Green Library from June 13-24 June during library opening hours.

Get to know your gadgets - one to one sessions helping with personal IT gadgets from smartphones to laptops and iPads - sessions include:
Bradley Stoke Library, Tuesday, June 20, 30 min slots from 9.30am to 11.30am
Kingswood Library, Monday, June 19, 1 hour slots 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm
Yate Library, Thursday, June 22, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

IT and internet for beginners sessions include:
Stay Safe online workshop at Filton Library, Thursday 22 June, 3pm to 4pm
One hour slots of general IT advice will also be at Filton Library, Saturday, June 24, 10am to 12pm.
Internet for beginners at Chipping Sodbury Library, Tuesday, June 20, Wednesday, June 21 and Friday, June 23 in the morning.

In addition, there is a T’ai Chi taster session taking place at Downend Library on Wednesday, June 12, 3pm to 4pm.
