THIS year's Yate Rocks in the Park festival attracted "record crowds", according to organisers behind the event.

Thousands of families descended on Kingsgate Park on Saturday, June 24 to enjoy a fun-filled weekend of music performances, carnival rides and entertainment.

A range of local bands performed sets during Saturday's festivities. These included: Toby, Tail Lights, Uncle Buck, Limited Edition, Elevation, Atlantic, Fire Blisters, and the Yate Rock Choir.

Crowds were also wowed with dance displays from GKR, Kathryn Hurley Dance Academy, Redds, Street Cred and Pure Dance Crew.

Robert Goodwin, who co-ordinated the event in conjunction with Yate Town Council, said that the "great weather" helped to make the festival one of the "most successful" yet.

"It went very well," he said. "We had a great turnout and the park filled up rapidly.

"There was a very good atmosphere in the park and a nice festival feel - people even bagged up there rubbish at the end of the day."

On Sunday, an outdoor morning service was held by several local churches.

The congregation then stayed for an afternoon picnic and performances from the Westerly Showband, Raysfield Choir and Sounds Delighted Ladies Choir.

For Robert, his favourite part of the festival was the selection of attractions on offer.

"There was something for everyone," he said.

"The music varied from a Rock Choir to the heavier sounding Fireblisters, but all of the performers did a fantastic job."
