DURING the welcome, new member packs were given to Angela, Jan and Jean, and leaving cards signed for Gill and Jackie.

Reports were given from the various groups, the Walking held a birthday party for Wendy, instead of a walk.

Members were reminded that we need a new treasurer, and were urged to step forward to help.

Members were reminded of the celebration on Saturday, July 1 of 150 years of Cam Post Office.

The tea break saw a brisk trade at the cake stall in aid of Denman.

The talk on Nibley Monument was given by WI member June King, an avid local historian.

She spoke of William Tyndale’s short but very eventful life.

An extraordinary intellectual, he translated the Bible into English from Greek and Hebrew texts.

The church authorities declared him a heretic and after fleeing around Europe, he was betrayed and executed in 1536.

The Nibley monument to him encountered several difficulties in its design and construction, but was eventually opened in 1866, and is now open to the public under the care of a board of trustees.
