THE building manager for a project in Yate has been shortlisted for a regional award.

Ron Bird, who lives in Staple Hill, was nominated for his work at the firm’s Churchill Gardens development in Yate.

He oversaw the construction of all 34 homes at the site and is now responsible for the build at Newland Homes’ Bowbridge Wharf development in Stroud.

Ron said: "I was very pleased to be nominated for this award, this is the first time that I’ve ever been up for anything like this.

"Churchill Gardens was a great site to work on, with a number of different house types to build and the location is great with it being surrounded by trees and with a very private feel.

"The team I had working for me at Churchill Gardens was great and they help to make all the difference and so we had a very happy site.

"I also enjoyed working with our customers and making sure their homes were exactly what they wanted.

"I got on well with Building Control and had a good relationship with the LABC, which helped make the site a success too."

Ron joined Newland Homes just over two years ago, having previously worked as a site manager for a large national housebuilder.

He is competing for the title of Best Site Manager at the LABC West of England Building Excellence Awards 2017.

Steve Harper, Construction Director for Newland Homes said: "Since joining Newland Homes Ron has shown himself as an excellent site manager and we were very proud to be able to nominate, and celebrate his shortlisting, for this award."

Ron will find out if he’s won at the ceremony next Friday (July 14).
