A PUB landlord and a Chipping Sodbury town councillor are opening a gin distillery in the town.

The new business, called Still In Sodbury, has been started by The Horseshoe landlord Dave Jeal and town councillor for the Old Sodbury ward Matthew Lewis.

They hope that their products' citrus flavours will put the town on the map and make the most of what is a very competitive industry.

Matthew told the Gazette: "I guess you could say we're both big gin enthusiasts, that's why we figured we would give it a go.

"With our nearest local rival based in Thornbury we feel there is a gap in the market for something new.

"Our citrus flavours will set us apart from some of our other competitors too.

"All our gin names will be named after local links, the first is Celestine Spa, the next releases will be Clocktower and High Street.

"After people tried it at gin nights in the Horseshoe we now pushing to get it into pubs across the UK, we feel like this could really put Chipping Sodbury on the map."

Still In Sodbury were officially granted their licence about a month ago and have seen early success.

Celestine is now stocked at Cotswold Vinters and The George hotel in the town as well as at The Horseshoe.

Their first flavour is named after a valuable crystal found in rocks around Yate, once a large focus of area's mining industry.
