A MAN from Yate has been jailed for 18 months after he struck another man with a bar stool in a Chipping Sodbury pub.

Paul Webb, 38, of Dovecote, Yate, left his victim with several broken ribs following the incident in The Boot on June 8 last year.

Webb was found guilty of one count of 'wounding' following an earlier trial.

His cousin, Darren Beal, 40, also of Dovecote in Yate, was also found guilty of the same offence in addition to one count of causing Actual Bodily Harm after he punched a second man in the face.

Beal was sentenced to 18 months in prison suspended for 18 months.

Investigating officer PC Sophia Smith said: "The customers in The Boot that night were hoping for a quiet drink but Webb and Beal were determined to cause trouble.

"Webb goaded one of the victims verbally, shortly followed by Beal who then both launched a violent physical attack on the victims.

"It is clear Webb, in particular, was intent on inflicting as much pain as he could on his victim when he used a bar stool as a weapon.

"Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and we will always do everything we can to bring those involved in such criminality to justice."
