Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society: 'Bamboozled' with Janet Davis

UNFORTUNATELY our scheduled demonstrator for the evening Pat Llewellyn was unwell, but Janet Davis from Abergavenny stepped in with her demonstration entitled “Bamboozled” a theme she attributed to her young grandsons wish to visit Thailand and the families subsequent visit.

Her first arrangement of hostas, skimmia, and beautiful deep red gladioli with orange carnations and gerbera represented the tribal villages she felt privileged to have visited.

A second arrangement of ferns, delphiniums, and lilies, with deep pink carnations and pink roses on a circular base gave a wonderful impression of the setting sun.

A raft made from bamboo with a simple arrangement of alliums and mini orchids was her third design.

Janet gave the audience an interesting insight into her experiences with Elephants, circulating paper made from Elephant Dung and some pictures painted by an Elephant.

Her design to compliment this was a cascade of foliage with orange gerbera, calla lilies, and red gerberas.

Her fifth arrangement was a calming sea of white avalanche roses and pink gerberas.

For her final design, Janet used a basket container filled with some cleverly arranged contorted laurel, delphiniums, sun flowers and red gerberas depicting the Temples of Thailand.

During the short interval between each arrangement Janet’s husband read an appropriate poem.

Our competition entitled “Floral Cascade” was won by Elaine Bushby, second Mary Oakey, and third Margaret Ganner.

Club members and friends enjoyed an outing to Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House on Saturday, June 29.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, August 2 when Julie Pearce will be demonstrating "Wouldn’t it be Nice".
