WOTTON in Bloom and the chamber of trade have joined forces to tidy up the town.

Two members of the award-winning Bloom team and the newly-appointed chamber of trade president got to work cutting back vegetation and replanting flower beds below the ‘Welcome to Wotton’ entrance sign.

The trio got to work on Tuesday (July 11) in a bid to make the entrances to Wotton as tidy as the rest of the town.

“We are proud of our town,” said Wotton in Bloom chairman, Sue Hunt.

“A lot of work goes into Wotton in Bloom, our annual celebration of the town centre.

“It seems a shame that the outskirts of the town should look shabby and uncared for.

“Our thanks go to the Wotton Farm Shop for donating the plants.”

Now in its eighth successive season, Wotton in Bloom raises money from the town’s traders along with sponsorship and donations from the public to adorn the streets with hanging baskets and troughs.

This year there are 150 hanging baskets dotted around Wotton town centre along with flower beds and troughs.

New president of the town’s chamber of trade, Martin Tucker, said: “We know for a fact that the hanging baskets bring in visitors.

“The chamber is also working in the same direction so I was delighted to be able to help in this way by tidying up the approaches to the town.”
