THOUSANDS are expected to descend on Thornbury’s Mundy Playing Fields next weekend for the return of the Big Ricksink Charity Family Festival.

The free event, which takes place on Saturday, July 22, from 12pm to 10pm, features plenty of entertainment for the whole family with live music, a fun fair, bouncy castles, food and the return of the popular beer tent.

All profits from the day, including from food and drink, will be donated to Cancer Research UK, with organisers Rickie and Chiz Kingscott hoping will surpass last year's total of almost £5,000.

This is the fifth year the event has taken place, with around £14,000 having been raised in total for various charities.

As well as the wide range of performers taking to the stage, including rock 'n' roll, indie and ska bands, there will also be Zumba classes, demonstrations from the Air Cadets and Thornbury Fire Brigade, and a selection of stalls.

Speaking to the Gazette, Chiz said: "It’s a day to come and enjoy some live music and have a great day of fun without spending a lot of money.

"But at the same time, it is a charity day and we are hoping everyone will help us raise a lot for Cancer Research."

Rickie said: "We want this to be our biggest event yet.

"With Thornbury continuing to grow, it is important that we do not lose the things that make the town special.

"A lot of the time you see towns get bigger and they begin to lose their community spirit. Our hope with that with events like the family fun day, that spirit can grow along with the town.”

Chiz added: "A massive thank you goes out to everyone that has helped us out with getting the fun day going again - The people who help out year on year are fantastic and we could not do it without their help.

"We also really want to say thank you to Thornbury Town Council for letting us use the field again."

The event is still looking for sponsors, with anyone interest in helping support the event asked to contact the organisers by calling 07828619081 or searching The BIG Ricksink Charity Family Festival on Facebook.
