Perry Bishop and Chambers sell former Baptist Church on Coxwell Street, delivering much welcomed funding for Cirencester Baptists’ new home on Chesterton Lane

PERRY Bishop and Chambers are pleased to confirm the successful sale of the former church, church cottages and church offices on Coxwell Street, home to Cirencester’s Baptist community since 1853. Due to an expanding congregation and growing demands on the space required by associated groups, Cirencester’s thriving Baptist community had to seek larger premises. They moved into their state-of-the-art new building on Chesterton Lane at the end of January. The sale of their former church will significantly help meet the running costs of their larger and more versatile base, which comprises a 500-seat auditorium, the Cirencester and Tetbury Foodbank, a café and various rooms used by community groups, including the Friday Under 5s Children’s Club.

“The site on Coxwell Street has served the Baptist Church since 1651 – and although we are sad to leave it behind – we are excited about our new home on Chesterton Lane. Perry Bishop & Chambers have been very helpful in securing the sale of an unusual set of buildings.” Matt Frost, senior pastor at Cirencester Baptist Church.

The former church and associated buildings have been purchased by local developer Jazzy Homes, who are looking to sympathetically develop the site for residential use - comprising five apartments and three cottages.

Peter Chambers, Director of Perry Bishop and Chambers’ Land and Development department said, “It was a real pleasure working with Pastor Matt Frost and his colleagues to bring this unusual opportunity to the open market. We are very experienced in this specialist area, having successfully marketed and sold more than 60 churches over the last five years on behalf of various denominations and trusts, for a combination of residential, commercial and community uses.”
