A COMMUNITY group in Yate has received £2,480 as part of the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Action Fund.

Abbotswood Action Group were awarded the money to be used towards the cost of a ‘Spring Clean Up’ in an effort to maintain the environment in South Gloucestershire and Abbotswood.

Over £41,000 has been allocated in total to 14 different groups that offer young people the chance to learn and engage with their communities.

Some of the other projects include SOS Global, who received £3,000 to deliver a one year youth programme to highlight the dangers of knife crime and anti-social behaviour, and YMCA Mendip to fund sporting activities and youth work in the area.

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “This is the first allocation of funding from my Community Action Fund since the publication of my new Police and Crime Plan.

"I’m once again delighted by the diversity of the projects that have been awarded funding and the way in which they support the new policing priorities.

“I continue to be overwhelmed by the innovative ways you are addressing local concerns in your communities and in particular the way in which you are supporting our young people."

The Commissioner’s Community Action Fund is awarded by the Police Community Trust. Applications are welcome all year round and decisions are made by the Board of Trustees.

Chair of the Trust, Bea Salter said: “As the Chair of the PCT and on behalf of the Trustees I’m thrilled to report that the successful partnership between the Commissioners Community Action Fund and the Police Community Trust continues and that we are able to offer support to the extremely worthwhile projects relating to the Police Commissioners priorities.”
