EMERGENCY services raced to a primary school in Thornbury on Sunday after a man went into cardiac arrest on the grounds of a pre-school.

The man, who is in his 70’s, suffered the heart attack whilst at the Little Acorns Nursery, next to Gillingstool Primary School.

Police had been called to the site after some youths gained access to the grounds and were asked to move away.

The man collapsed while showing the attending officer to the group, with her then administering CPR for 15 minutes while ambulances were called.

A rapid response vehicle, ambulance and hazardous area response team were dispatched just after midday to Gillingstool Primary School, with air ambulance also in attendance.

CPR continued to be carried out at the scene, with the man then being taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary by road ambulance, where he is currently recovering.
