HUNDREDS of historical vehicles, including a RA Lister-commissioned fire engine, will be displayed at a vintage show next week.

Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza returns to South Cerney Airfield for three days for what it one of the biggest events of its kind in the country.

Amongst almost 700 classic cars, 230 motorbikes, military and industrial vehicles which will fill the site from August 4-6 will be the 1937 Fordson fire engine which was commissioned by R A Lister and remained largely unused in decades in Dursley.

Last year the event attracted 20,000 visitors – the largest attendance in the show’s 42-year history.

Proceeds are distribute amongst various organisations, and last year Kingshill Arts Centre in Dursley and Vale of Berkeley Railway were two of many to benefit.

Aside from the vehicles, the show also hosts hundreds of stalls and a countryside section which features a range of traditional agricultural displays.

Organiser Martyn Slater from Dursley, said: “Our goal has always been to give the best value for money family day out in Gloucestershire, with something for all of the family to enjoy.

“The show has evolved a lot over the past 40 years, but the mission remains the same - to inform, educate, entertain and celebrate our unique transport history and the preservation of historical vehicles.

“This year we have had a record number of vehicle entries confirmed, so 2017 is set to be our biggest show yet in its history.”

The show opens from 10am-5pm on each day, with a free vintage bus service operating around the perimeter of the show site, and to and from Cirencester Town Centre and Kemble railway station.
