‘Upmarket travellers’ with ‘top-of-the-range’ caravans and Range Rovers have set up camp in Tolworth.
Residents reported seeing the camp, according to witnesses – on the cricket pitch in Alexandra Recreation Ground on Thursday, August 10.
Police and council officers met with the group today. They are “taking the necessary action to move on the group”, a council spokesperson stated.
One resident, who did not want to be named, told the Surrey Comet: “They’re not the easiest people to move on.
“Hopefully it’ll pass away peacefully, but it can lead to a bit of friction.”
He added: “They’re not all bad people, but they carry a reputation with them of just moving on and leaving behind rubbish.”
He described them as having “upmarket caravans” and “20 to 30 grand Range Rovers".
A Kingston Council spokesperson said: "We are aware of a traveller encampment on Alexandra Recreation Ground.
“We are working closely with the police in taking the necessary action to move on the group."
