A THRIVING sports and recreation facility in Wotton-under-Edge has been praised by the deputy police and crime commissioner (PCC) on a visit to the site yesterday.
Chris Brierley was welcomed to the 38-acre Wotton Community PARC on Friday to view the skatepark which was part-funded by Gloucestershire PCC Martin Surl.
He awarded £10,000 towards the £84,000 project through the £5million Commissioner's Fund, run by the PCC.
The skatepark, which opened in February 2015, is the latest element of plans by Wotton Community Sports Foundation volunteers to develop the site it manages.
On land adjacent to the skating facility, the process of developing BMX tracks is well-progressed with about two-thirds of the required funds already raised.
A rugby pitch, artificial outdoor sports pitches and safe path to the site have previously been built on the land off New Road.
Thousands of saplings have been planted to create a wildlife corridor across the land.
Meeting the group's volunteers on Friday, Mr Brierley said projects like Wotton Community PARC were "helping to reduce demand on police" across the county.
"Working with communities on projects like this is a key priority and helps make the county safer," he said.
