THE FINEST floral pieces in Thornbury were on display last weekend for the Horticultural Society’s summer flower show.

A beautiful summer’s day encouraged many people to come and view the colourful exhibits, with 50 exhibitors putting in hours of hard work to get their items ready for judges at the Armstrong and Cossham Halls.

Taking the overall victories in each section were:

• Vegetables – Sandra Grey

• Flowers – Dot Culverhouse

• Fruit – Don Harris

• Floral Art – Pat Duru

• Preserves – Sandra Grey

• Cookery – Jenny Jones

• Handicraft – D Davey

• Photography – Sheridan Rendall

• Children (up to seven-years-old) – Lizzie Latham

• Children (eight-to-14-years-old) – Isabel Hardman

As well as all the trophy winners, there was a surprise for eight-year-old Sophia Jones, whose design for the cover of the 2018 Summer Show was announced, and will appear on 250 copies of next year’s schedule.

Thornbury Horticultural vice-president Ruth Kitson said: “It has been another stand-out show, with lots of fantastic exhibits to give the judges a tough time picking winners.

“It was great to have so many people there and we look forward to seeing them all again for our shows in the future.”
