A FATHER and daughter from Cam will be embarking on a mammoth cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Rick and Brionny Lees are taking on the challenge in aid of the British Heart Foundation, starting on Friday, September 1, with the aim of completing the cycle in 15 days.

Twenty years ago, in celebration of his 40th birthday, Rick cycled the less conventional North to South route with three of his work colleagues.

“One of my personal reasons for doing this trip is to remember one of those three colleagues who are no longer with us” he says on his JustGiving page.

“Rich Edwards died two years ago from an undiagnosed heart condition, he was just 49.

“It’s ironic that Rich was a keen sportsman and the fittest of us all; no matter the weather he would never miss a training ride and was always the first up a hill or wanting to cycle 10 miles more”.

In his remembrance, Rick was inspired to cycle hundreds of miles again, this time alongside his daughter Brionny.

They will set off from Land’s End and stop at B&Bs throughout the country along the way, each day covering on average a huge 70 miles.

On route they are aiming to visit Lizard Point and Dunnet Head, the most southerly and northerly points of Britain.

Every penny they raise will be donated to the charity as they have completely self-financed their ride.
