WITH temperatures hitting 26 degrees yesterday, Worcestershire residents made the most of the sunshine over the August Bank Holiday.

The sun shone unexpectedly throughout the weekend as thousands made the most of it at events across the county.

Worcester News readers also got in touch to say how they were making the most of the hot weather over the bank holiday.

Soaring temperatures hit the aptly-named Sunshine Festival in Upton where organisers said they had their best every year.

Over six thousand visitors watched the likes of Atomic Kitten, Blue and Bad Manners across the weekend.

Hundreds of visitors to Fort Royal Park hit the shade with their picnics and ice creams whilst enjoying performances from bhangra and morris dancers and Asian and African drummers.

The One World In Our Park event, organised by the Friends of Fort Royal Park, also saw performances from Voices Unlimited, Dancefest and Worcester Ukulele Club throughout the day.

Councillor Lynn Denham, chair of the Friends of Fort Royal Park, said: “We couldn’t have asked for better weather.

“There’s been a lot of hard work and a lot of people have contributed to make it happen.

The scorching weather helped offer unrivalled views of the city from the hills with hardly a cloud in sight.

Pershore once again turned purple and yellow as over 25,000 people celebrated the famous fruit at the annual Plum Festival.

What was thought to be record-breaking numbers worked their way around 100 plum related stalls whilst over a thousand classic cars and 500 bikes made an appearance over the weekend.

Angela Tidmarsh, chairman of the festival said: “We are absolutely delighted with how it has gone, the committee have been superb.”

In Malvern, thousands of Morgan drivers assembled at the Three Counties Showground to celebrate the car in its hometown.

Jeff Op De Heye from Belgium took his Morgan to be judged having spent five years working on it.

A sell-out crowd cheered on Worcestershire as the club offered free admission to New Road.

As always, the curtain drew spectacularly on Worcester Festival with the annual fireworks display.
