COLWALL Rotarians are getting ready for one of the most popular events in the club’s calendar later this month.

And members are hoping that the annual duck race, which takes place in West Malvern, will be better than ever this year.

The race takes place on Sunday, September 10, starting at 1pm at Ray Gillard’s Field, off Croft Bank.

The £5 entry fee for adults gives each entrant a duck in each of the day’s five races, with prizes for the ducks that come first, second and third in each race.

Tickets can be bought on the day, and there will be a barbecue and bar.

Jim Richardson of the club said: “The event promises fun for all the family.

“Children can bring their wellies, paddle with the ducks down the stream and get their feet wet, or they can run up and down the hills in the field.

“In the meantime mum and dad, grandad and grandma, uncles and aunts can have a drink and enjoy some food from the barbecue.”

Tony Brook of the club said: “We’ve held it for several years and its become increasingly popular, with more people each year.”

People attending the event are urged to bring deck chairs or a picnic rug to sit on.

Last year’s event attracted over 200 people, and many more bought tickets to have a duck entered into each race.

Mr Richardson said: “ Everyone seemed to have a very good time.

“Many people said it was a wonderful family afternoon or that the event provided the ideal opportunity for members of the local community to meet together.

“In all, over £1,500 was raised for Parkinsons UK and other Rotary causes.”

Proceeds from the this year’s event will go once again to Rotary charities, including End Polio Now, and Parkinsons Disease UK.

Parking for the event is not a problem, as a large field is provided.
