A JOBS fair organised by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall took place last Friday.

The free event, which was held at Yate Parish Hall, brought together local employers and local job seekers, with a variety of vacancies on offer.

Featured jobs included apprenticeship opportunities, with a mix of full, part time and volunteering roles from employers such as NCS, Marshfield Bakery, Boots, Tesco and South Gloucestershire-based training providers.

This is the sixth job fair that has been organised by the MP, who has pledged to hold at least two such events a year.

It comes as the latest available figures showed the Thornbury and Yate constituency has one of the lowest unemployment rates across the country with the 636th lowest claimant count out of 650. Recent figures also showed female unemployment in Thornbury and Yate is at a very low level, with a reduction of 58% in female claimants from July 2010 to July 2017.

Mr Hall said: “As a local man I believe supporting people in our community back into work is hugely important. These Jobs Fairs are a great way to put local talent in touch with local employers and I am pleased to see that they are growing in attendance by employers and job hunters with each event”.
