ALVESTON’S twinning partnership with Courville-sur-Eure in France has celebrated 30 years of friendship with a special visit to their twin town.

Over the August bank holiday weekend, members of the Alveston Twinning Association visited Courville to celebrate the special year, with celebrations beginning almost as soon as they arrived, with a welcoming reception in the Salle Pannard.

The Saturday morning started with the planting of a tree by the presidents of the two twinning associations, Michel Carpentier from Courville, and Valerie Fergyson, from Alveston. The Black and White Brass Band then led a walk through the town for the official welcome by the leaders of the local authorities, with a reply from the Alveston chairman.

A four hour celebratory meal was then thoroughly enjoyed, and a magnificent cake was cut, with much singing and reminiscing about the last 30 years.

In the evening, hosts and guests continued with the celebrations at several parties around the community.

On Sunday, two coaches left for Bagnoles de l’Orne, arriving at La Michaudiere, a family run farm working with Percheron horses.

Everyone enjoyed a carriage ride around the farm, a visit to Bagnoles, a Spa town, lunch and a marvellous display of the agility of these huge horses.

Host families organised various events for their guests on the Monday with the visit rounded off with a farewell.
