IAM RoadSmart is a registered UK charity formed in 1956. Their mission is to make better drivers and riders in order to improve road safety, inspire confidence and make driving and riding enjoyable.

Using their network of thousands of volunteers, local groups and qualified experts, they’ve spent more than 60 years making our roads safer by improving driver and rider skills through coaching and education. They also help businesses to develop their staff to become more confident, skilled and responsible on the road.

The organisation has 92,000 members and campaigns on road safety on their behalf. At any one time, there are over 7,000 drivers and riders actively engaged with IAM RoadSmart’s courses, and their Driver Retraining Academy has helped 2,500 drivers to shorten their driving bans through education and support programmes.

Special Skills Days

One thing that IAM RoadSmart organise are special skills days, where both drivers and riders can put into practice good driving or riding skills. They are based at circuits at various places around the country, offering a controlled environment without the normal hazards of everyday roads.

The days are design for all those who want to improve their driving or riding skills whilst also having some fun. No prior experience is required and it is open to members and non-members alike. You’ll find classic cars, family runabouts and all manner of bikes there to try out on the day.

Some of the aspects of safer driving and riding you’ll cover include vanishing points, corner entry, apex and exit points, where to brake, when and how much to brake, how it feels in an emergency and finishing on accelerator (throttle) application to set the balance of the car (bike) for controlled smooth cornering.

You can book a place by calling them on 0300 303 1134 or of course, go to their website at www.iamroadsmart.com, where you can also find out their other products and services.
