PLANS to restore Winterbourne’s spectacular medieval barn continue apace, but vital funding is still needed for the project.

An application has been made to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant of £1million, which would be used to protect the structure of the barn, stabilise and renovate the attached buildings, and provide a space for educational and community purposes.

But to secure the HLF funding, the barn’s fundraisers must match it with £400,000 by December.

Trustee Louise Harrison is urging people to chip in to help save the historic site.

"The fundraising campaign is going well, but there's plenty more to raise," she said.

"If anyone can think about holding a fundraising event for us, that would be great. We've got lots of ideas to help people host their own fundraiser, and that's a really good way for more people to find out about our project.

"Also if people have links to a local charitable trust or a local company, it would be fantastic if they could ask them to consider making a small gift to help us reach our target."

"Together we can all ensure that Winterbourne is brought back fully into use to inspire and amaze future generations.”
