THIS year is the 30th anniversary of the formation of Thornbury Lions Club.

During this time the club has become an integral part of the community by supporting a large number of local projects.

To celebrate our anniversary we are focussing on youth, and for our first major event we invited local schools to a presentation evening at the Cossham Hall.

The club gave a donation of £500 to each of the thirteen schools to be to purchase books and/or sports equipment.

Light refreshments were served and the evening ended with a superb display of folk music by the Wriggle Jigglers, a local band of enthusiastic young musicians.

They are members of three families from Thornbury and Rockhampton who have performed at folk festivals nationwide and they gave a rousing climax to a very successful evening.

We have been running a charity bookshop since November 2011.

This is both enjoyable and provides us with a high profile in the community and has been the main driver to recruit new members.

Thornbury Lions are committed to building a brighter future for the community.

We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7.30pm at The Chantry.
