FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a deliberately started fire in a park in Thornbury last night.

A crew from Thornbury Fire Station was called to Streamleaze Park at 8.35pm, following reports of a fire on open ground within a pit.

The crew used a backpack portable water source to put out the fire.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said they believed the fire was started deliberately and that police have been notified.
