HEALTHCARE is something we sometimes take for granted in this country, so when it is under threat in whatever way, it does come as quite a shock.

So when the early closures of the minor injury unit in Yate began, a service meant to take the strain off both GPs and accident and emergency departments, of course people are going to speak out against it.

If the service becomes as popular as Sirona has claimed and people are piling in to be seen, the measures they are taking to ensure order do seem appropriate, particularly if it is causing trouble for both patients and staff.

But when some claim that the four-hour waiting is never remotely close to being reached, questions do have to be raised of the early closures.

A review, as proposed by Liberal Democrats, is then surely a good idea, so why did Conservatives resist.

Healthcare and ensuring the health of our friends and family should be at the centre of our community and if management, councillors, or anyone else disagrees, questions should asked of them too.
