POKEMON battles and board games are among the activities being held at an event in Dursley Library.

The Play. The Future. event is a bid from library staff and community groups to bring more people into the library, and the activities are aimed at not just children but adults too.

It is being held on Saturday, October 21 from 10am until 4pm.

Gloucestershire county councillor Tim Harman, cabinet member for public health and communities, has praised the “ground-breaking” event.

“It’s always inspiring to see the hard work of library staff and community groups bringing people together in unusual and imaginative ways, especially when residents are offered the opportunity to get hands-on with new technology,” he said.

“I hope gamers young and old enjoy this ground breaking event in their local library.”

Board games suitable for everyone aged eight and above will be held throughout the event.

Pokemon battles will be held from 11am until 12pm and 1pm-2pm, competitors will need to bring their own copy of Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon, as well as a 3DS or 2DS handheld console.

The gym battle challenge will run for the duration of the event, players will battle the library’s very own gym leader.

Attendees can contest the Pathfinder RPG, an adventure video game involving magic, elves and orcs – this will also stretch from 10am until 4pm.

Youngsters aged five and up can enjoy the Lego fantasy world for the full duration of the event.

Throughout half term week (October 21-28), the whole of Dursley town centre will be transformed into a real-life game.

Players will hunt for symbols around the town in a bid to become Dursley’s greatest hero.

To join in, visit Dursley Library, collect a dice and map and begin the adventure.
