WHEELS are in motion as fundraising to build two BMX tracks in Wotton has almost reached the £20,000 required.

In March plans were announced to build two BMX tracks to accompany the vast range of sporting activity space already in place at Wotton PARC.

This follows the hard work of the Wotton Community Sports Foundation – which as a 999-year lease for the site – the many people who have helped fundraise and a £220,000 pledge from South Gloucestershire Council last year.

The BMX track will be a 200-metre long S-shape suitable for amateurs and more experienced riders, the pump track will provide a riding service for people of all ages, even those who do not own a BMX.

WCSF are nearing their £20,000 fundraising goal, with £14,000 raised so far, and are aiming to officially open the new tracks next summer.

This follows contributions from Rose Stephenson, who ran a marathon to raise funds, along with contributions from Renishaw, Heaven of the South, Wotton’s Secret Gardens Trail, the Party in the PARC and the Lions, among others.

Sarah Watt from the Wotton Community Sports Foundation issued a further call for assistance in reaching the final goal.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity, time and effort of local individuals and organisations we are well on our way to our goal to fund the new BMX track," she said.

“Are you a local organisation that may be able to help with the final parts of the funding plan? If so, we would love to hear from you.

“We are keen to have the new BMX facilities ready for everyone to use next summer at the PARC.”

The existing skate facilities, built in 2015, have been connected to a safe footpath all the way from Wotton to the PARC providing a secure route for visitors to follow avoiding traffic on the main road.

WCSF, which became a registered charity in 2007, claim that visitor numbers to the 38-acre PARC (People, Activities, Recreation and Community) now reach around 3,000 each week in peak times.

It has already constructed a skatepark, rugby pitch, 3G artificial pitch and an artificial turf pitch for hockey, gazebo and covered seating, gravel car park at the PARC.
