A MANUFACTURER of garden furniture in Thornbury has gone into liquidation after 30 years of trading.

Britannic Furniture Ltd, based on Cooper Road in Thornbury’s industrial estate, manufactured and sold hardwood garden furniture to the general public as well as to the likes of the National Trust and cemeteries.

The Bristol office of accountants Marzars have been appointed liquidator.

At its peak, Britannic Furniture had a turnover of around £1million, however in recent years, this has reduced to around £200,000.

The company ceased trading shortly prior to entering liquidation and all five of the company’s employees were made redundant at that time.

Tim Ball of Mazars said “It is very sad to see another long established British business struggling to compete with overseas competition and the impact of Brexit.

“The directors have invested significant sums of money over the years to try to turnaround the company’s fortunes, however they have now concluded that the business is no longer viable.”
