THE Wotton Heritage Centre is part of the Wotton Historical Society and as a charity with no regular income needs to raise funds in order to continue to preserve Wotton’s historical artefacts.

In 2018 they introduced a “Friends” scheme to enable supporters to take part in the programme directly.

Details available at the centre.

Committee member Jeff Walshe commented: “The Heritage Centre serves a double purpose in providing a home for historical data and as a front line visitor information centre open throughout the year.

“While one team carries out preservation, data collection and exhibition work, another manages the tourism information area, local attractions promotions and shop.

“We welcome anyone who would like to join us and expand our operation.

“In order to raise funds, we have interesting monthly talks in the winter months and Town Hall teas in the summer as well as the shop and calendar sales.

“We work with the Chamber of Trade and the One Stop Shop at the Civic Centre in promoting Wotton across the South West and entertain hundreds of visitors each month from all over the world.

“We would like to thank all our supporters, sponsors, members and the Town Council for enabling our team to carry out this important work."

A new exhibition is now open, entitled A Grave Undertaking; A short history of Wotton’s last resting places, and the people who worked in them.

The curator David Baird has assembled information surrounding the four locations for burial in the town.

The Wotton calendar, sponsored by 12 local businesses is on sale for £5 each, with proceeds going to the heritage centre.

It is now available from The Heritage Centre, Daisy M Vintage, The One-Stop-Shop, Bear Street Garage, WH Thomas & Son and the Market Place at Wotton - all funds go to the heritage centre
