SHOPPERS in Cirencester were stunned when they saw an out-of-control vehicle career into a building near the Market Place, narrowly missing a man and his 10-month-old baby.

Witnesses to the incident, which happened on Saturday afternoon, said they saw a vehicle plough in to one of the pillars of 5 Dyer Street.

Joe Barrowclough said he was walking down from the Market Place when he was nearly knocked down by the vehicle.

“I was walking past the town hall, pushing my 10-month-old son in the pram, when I felt something behind me”, said Joe.

“I heard a crash and turned around and saw that a car had just missed us and struck the pillars in front of the building.

“There was a large commotion and someone shouted, ‘You nearly killed someone’.

“If I had been one pace behind then my legs would have been crushed and if I had been two paces behind then my son and his pram would have been crushed.”
