YATE Relay For Life - a volunteer run fundraising event for Cancer Research UK - has launched a new campaign for 2018 - Get Half!

Having raised a whopping £430,000 over the last 12 years, the group have now set their sights on reaching the half a million mark by the end of 2018.

"This is a massive ask of our local community, as it will mean us raising £70,000 this year," said Liam Craddock, one of the event organisers.

"We have faith in our amazing fundraising teams, old and new, and also with the support of local businesses we are positive we can achieve this."

The event - a 24-hour team relay - is being held at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex on July 7 and 8 2018, from 12pm, Saturday to 12pm on Sunday.

Teams of up to 16 people will walk or run in turns around the track for the whole 24 hours, with round-the-clock entertainment taking place alongside.

Last year saw 35 teams and 500 participants raise a whopping £60,000.

"We are at a point where new breakthroughs and kinder treatments are coming through, and that’s thanks to the world leading research being done at Cancer Research UK.

"To continue this trend, we really want to raise as much as we can to ensure more people survive cancer and that treatments are more effective," said Liam.
