MANY in the community have criticised the introduction of hundreds of new homes to Thornbury and the subsequent strain the town’s infrastructure is under, but the problems faced by Falfield and Tytherington with a vast increase in new homes is a whole different kettle of fish.

Some may criticise the NIMBY-ism of not wanting additional houses, but if you have bought (or sometimes even built) a new home in a village for the rural seclusion the surroundings offer, you are likely to be frustrated when that is replaced by new housing estates.

Transport is a problem faced by everyone. Many are concerned that the developments would add further congestion to the A38 and the nearby M5 junction, and with Falfield almost set to double in size, that seems almost a certainty.

Meanwhile, the road through Tytherington, already frequented by motorists driving too fast, will also become busier with the new arrivals.

So what infrastructure is coming to support this expansion? As far as anyone can see, a park and share and a community centre that no one asked for. Hopefully South Gloucestershire Council will at least put the developers’ financial contributions to good use.
