POLICE believe two home burglaries in Thornbury and Charfield on Saturday are linked after a stolen jewellery box from one crime scene was found at the other.

Officers were called at about 10.30pm by a family who had returned to their home on Rosslyn Way, Thornbury, to find it had been broken into.

Thieves had forced their way through a ground floor window to steal a television and jewellery after the family had gone out at 6pm.

The same evening at about 9.30pm, there was a report of a break-in at a house off Station Road, Charfield, in which thieves smashed the glass in a conservatory door to steal jewellery and a life-sized bronze statue of a cat.

While carrying out forensic enquiries at the Charfield address, the crime scene investigator found the jewellery box, which was found to have come from the burglary in Thornbury.

Officers have carried out house to house enquiries and are asking for anyone with any information which could help the investigation to get in touch.
