POLICE are trying to reunite a collection of medals, stamps and coins with their rightful woners after they were found dumped in Almondsbury.

A member of the public found an opened safe containing the items along Hortham Lane and flagged down a police officer to report it at around 10.40am yesterday.

It’s not clear how long the safe had been there, but the property was wet after recent rain.

Among the items in the safe are a medal with a man’s head and the word "Carolus", a Bristol Aeroplane Company Fire Brigade enamelled badge, medals inscribed Franz Joseph IV Oesterreich and "Vitam et Sanguinem" and a medal inscribed with the initials GRJ VI and the words "The France and Germany Star".

Anyone with information which could help identify the rightful owner is asked to get in touch through the police website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5218015809.
