SCHOOLS in Gloucestershire performed better than the English average in GCSE English and maths results league tables published today.

Grammar schools Pate’s and Sir Thomas Rich’s were the best-performing with 98 per cent of students achieving a grade 5 or above (the equivalent of a high C-low B grade) in their English and Maths GCSEs.

Across the county, 46.2 per cent of students achieved the benchmark English and Maths grades compared to the English average of 39.6 per cent.

Despite strong overall performance in terms of grades, Gloucestershire’s schools were below the national average in Progress 8 scores (which show how much progress students have made).

The English average for Progress 8 scores was -0.03 with the score in Gloucestershire -0.11.

Attainment 8 scores, which rank pupils by how well they performed in up to eight subjects, Gloucestershire was again above the English average of 44.6 with a rating of 48.4.
